SENsible Magazine May 2024

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the May 2024 issue of SENsible Magazine! This month, we focus on bridging the gaps between the legal challenges and resource crunch in special educational needs, alongside an inspiring vision for addressing Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) in the UK.

In this edition, you’ll find practical insights and strategies to help you as SENCOs navigate the often tricky waters of inspection anxiety. The featured articles provide a rich tapestry of advice ranging from understanding legal intricacies to enhancing resource allocation, all aimed at supporting your continuous efforts to provide the best for your students.

We’re thrilled to share some personal updates as well, as Gavin and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary with a relaxing retreat, reminding us all about the importance of balance in our digital and real-life engagements. On the work front, we’ve introduced easier webinar access and revamped membership options to better serve our community’s needs.

Gardening has become a new passion for Gavin, mirroring the nurturing and growth we aim to foster here at SENsible SENCO. It’s about carefully cultivating our resources and strategies to ensure they thrive and adapt, much like the plants in a garden.

We also welcome new partnerships with Widgit and Mable, enhancing our offerings and support for the SEN community, particularly in the realms of EAL resources and SEMH support.

Dive into this issue to explore how strategic planning can make your role as a SENCO smoother and more productive. Connect with us anytime to discuss ideas, or if you simply wish to chat—we’re just an email or a phone call away.

Let’s continue to support each other and grow together in our SENsible community. Here’s to a month filled with learning, growth, and effective SENCOing!

Happy SENCOing,

Abigail Hawkins.
